FIGHT HUNGER IN AFRICA

THE KARAMOJA DRIVE

This year 2017, our volunteers started the karamoja drive to eliminate hunger in the communities.

Hunger has been a recurrent problem in the drought-prone region of Karamoja. Due to natural, social, and political causes, periods of famine intensified in the 1970s. The famine of 1980 was the worst in the regions history at the time. In less than a year, it killed around 20% of the population, including approximately half of all infants. While the famine also reached other districts, Karamoja was by far the worst affected. The widespread drought that Uganda experienced in 2016 will extended famine in 2017.Sixty-nine people have died of famine just in this village [Lorengedwat]. There are others who won’t survive much longer,” says Simon Iriama, district councillor for Lorengedwat sub-county.

With our volunteers, they organized A ROAD TRIP from Kampala to moroto and Kotido, where they were rising awareness and collecting support for the children suffering and starving because they can not get food. 5 Volunteers and  RYPU supervisors donated food and other items to the people of Karamoja. During the Road trips our volunteers sleep on the road , like near police stations where security is provided and also as sign of solidarity with the suffering of the people of karamoja. Each year we make 2 road trips,if your interested to be part of this cause you can write to us on info@reachyoungpeople.org

CLOTH A CHILD

Many charities only ask for clothing in good condition, but RYPU wants to save all textiles from the landfill. Instead of separating your unwanted clothes into “donate” and “recycle” piles, you can put everything in one bag  send on our a ddrasse. We respect your time, and we want to make it easy as possible for you to find new homes for your clothes in a socially and environmentally responsible way

Donating your clothes that are in good condition helps us cloth the children in northern Uganda and other parts of the country, and it motivates them to go to school in smart ware..As you plan to visit Uganda, carry a cloth to donate and Give a kid a smile.

NEBBI SPORTS PROJECT

Children from various home stays are collected from various parishes and are made to compete in soccer and after the tournament rewards are provided including scholastic materials, and clothing’s. We have started porridge campaign in schools, in this we encourage parents to contribute towards this cause and showing the goodness in it.

WOMEN CRAFT PROJECT

We have started supporting Hands to Hands Project. The women in the areas of Wakiso district, in the Makindye Sabagabo Municipality under the Guidance of our Germany volunteers , have been introduced to craft making projects, in this they make necklaces , earrings, baskets and other items from the traditional African fibers. These items are transported and sold to European markets , which creates income for these single mothers and those women living with HIV which has supported them to get drugs and other necessities. Great thanks to our volunteers. You can join the cause to uplift the African woman at RYPU.

TAILORING PROJECT

For the past 3 years we have enhanced and engaged in training girls in this sector, we have been working in partnerships with technical colleges and other institutions to get access to these trainings. Our Youth have been empowered and given opportunity to get income through this training, So far this project have been able to graduate 120 youth,  However much it seems to be successful we still have challenges in finances.

BRICKLAYING PROJECT

In Uganda 75% of the Youth are unemployed , This puts the Uganda economic productivity level of Human resource to low standards compared to other East African countries. As RYPU,   came up this project and about 400 youth in Wakiso district are benefitting. We provide bricklaying.
